MarineShield™ VIV Supression Systems
It is common for long slender tubular members such as risers and drill strings to be exposed to hydrodynamic loading from both wave and current flow. In current dominated conditions, risers and drill strings may experience motions resulting from the periodic shedding of vortices as the fluid passes around the cylindrical member.
The shedding vortices may result in a phenomenon called Vortex Induced Vibrations (VIV). The presence of VIV in a riser or drill string can result in the riser/drill string being subject to high oscillating stresses and eventually result in premature fatigue failure of the riser or drill string. It is therefore essential that the VIV be minimised or if possible removed from the system.
The effect of VIV can be avoided through the design of through the use of VIV suppression systems. Matrix Composites & Engineering has combined the company's technology and capabilities in the field of Advanced Materials and Subsea Equipment Manufacturing with AMOG's experience and history in Fluid Dynamic Modelling and Subsea Engineering to provide the offshore industry with custom engineered solutions and product for VIV suppression.
